The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with tremendous enthusiasm and patriotic ferrour at Saraswati Vidyalaya High School and Junior College of Science, Rabodi, Thane.
After the tricolour was hoisted by the Principal, Mrs. Anita Pinto the entire school resonated to the strains of the National Anthem by the National Flag song.
The Captain of the School Council, Master Anay Patil then formally welcomed everyone. In a little presentation aptly titled, ‘Desh Ke Nanhe Rakhwale’ the pre primary students dressed up as erstwhile national leaders enacted their world famous slogans. Rani Laxmibai’s ‘Main Meri Jhaansi Nahin Doongi’ drew the loudest cheers.
Thereafter there was an Inter house Competition of Patriotic songs, wherein along with the popular ones like ‘Jinku kinwa maru’ and ‘Himmat watan ki hamse hain’ there was a Punjabi and Sanskrit rendition too.
The Vice Principal in her inimitable poetic style impressed upon the students the true meaning of independence. The Principal then addressed the students, reminding them of their duties towards their parents, school, society and country.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the Cultural Leader of the Junior School Council, Ms. Romila Menon.
